Lamlash is just 3 miles south of the ferry terminal. It is a village of historical importance in Arran and home to many of the islands longest established services. The bay, a sheltered and natural harbour has catered for its maritime users for many decades. Paterson Arran has its main production and retail outlet in the village and there are a many places to eat and drink along the seafront. The Ross Road, Arrans only single track road (and therefore bus-free) connects to Sliddery from Lamlash and the views of Holy Isle and the sea are worth the 9 mile cross-country trip. Lamlash is also the starting point for a visit to Holy Isle, the Buddhists retreat, access to this nature reserve is strictly through the official ferry from Lamlash.
It is also the administrative centre for the Island, housing the local council offices and the police station. The High School for all the Islands students is here as well.
Lamlash has some of the steepest greens on its Golf course and the bay now has become an Underwater Nature Preservation site and is now a No-Fishing-Zone.

This traditional Scottish hotel with its gables and whitewashed walls looks directly across the sea to the Holy Isle. To the side is the hotel's historic walled garden which also faces the sea and is an ideal spot to relax with a coffee or a drink or simply to enjoy the view. The Glenisle Restaurant delights in presenting fine food in a charming and relaxed atmosphere.
