The uninterrupted horizon from the very south of Arran gives a true feeling of being on an island. You can also make out the Kintyre peninsula, Pladda, Ailsa Craig and other noteworthy landmarks from this area.
Blackwaterfoot is the centre of this region and hosts Arran's only 12-hole golf course, as well as other sporting facilities, not least the very famous Cairnhouse Riding Centre. There is one hotel, several B&B's and two pubs in the village, some shops and a post office. A short trip up the «String Road» through Shiskine, takes you to Balmichael Visitor Centre – one of Arran's key attractions, home of the only driving range on the Island. Pony Trekking in Blackwaterfoot is also available and the swimming pool, gymnastic and snooker rooms at the hotel can be used by the public. - Kings's Cave, Starting points: at the Golf and Tennis Club nr. Blackwaterfoot (ca 13 km) or on the C841 midway between Blackwaterfoot and Machrie (large parking with picknick table, roundtrip about 5 km). A combination is possible.
- Standing Stones, on Machrie Moor. An easy walk along lovely contryside, ca. 2km to the famous stone Monuments of ancient history, a roundtrip of about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Ideal for a walk with kids. Parking off main road opposite the walk (just don't miss it, the signs are nearly invisible...)
- Walk Cnoc Ballygown,Start on the B880 between Blackwaterfoot and Shiskine, About 5 km, to a ancient fort with superb views to the west
